Anne van Aaken

Anne van Aaken es abogada y economista alemana que actualmente se desempeña como profesora en la Universidad Alexander von Humboldt, jefa de cátedra de Derecho y Economía, Teoría Jurídica, Derecho Internacional Público y Derecho Europeo y directora del Instituto de Derecho y Economía de la Universidad de Hamburgo, Alemania.

Antes ejerció la docencia en otras importantes universidades europeas, entre ellas la mas reciente fue como profesora titular en la Universidad de St. Gallen, Suiza. Su carrera académica ha incluido becas de investigación de alto nivel en los Institutos Max-Planck en Heidelberg y Bonn, Alemania. Recibió su licenciatura en Derecho en 1997 de Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität (LMU), Munich, Alemania y su doctorado en 2001 en la Universidad Europea Viadrina y es admitida al Colegio de Abogados de Alemania.

Sus intereses de investigación incluyen:

  • Derecho internacional público, centrado en el Derecho económico internacional, teorías del Derecho internacional, interacciones de regímenes, responsabilidades compartidas en Derecho internacional.
  • Derecho y economía (conductual) y economía experimental, teoría jurídica, Derecho y desarrollo jurídicos internacionales con enfoque en la corrupción, la responsabilidad social de las empresas, y el arbitraje y la negociación.

Ha presentado trabajos, dirigido talleres y publicado libros y numerosos artículos sobre estos temas en distintas revistas académicas destacadas de Europa y los Estados Unidos.

Entre sus actividades de liderazgo en asociaciones académicas, la profesora van Aaken fue vicepresidenta de la Asociación Europea de Derecho y Economía y de la Sociedad Europea de Derecho Internacional. Es miembro de la junta asesora de la Revista Europea de Derecho Internacional y de la junta editorial de la Revista Americana de Derecho Internacional, así como de la Revista de Derecho Económico Internacional.

Ha enseñado en América Latina, Asia y África. Fue investigadora visitante en las facultades de Derecho de la Universidad de California, Berkeley y de la Universidad de Yale, así como profesora visitante en las facultades de Derecho de Columbia y NYU.

Anne van Aaken is a German lawyer and economist currently serving as the Alexander von Humboldt Professor, Chair for Law and Economics, Legal Theory, Public International Law and European Law and the Director of the Institute of Law and Economics at the University of Hamburg, Germany.

Previously, she held positions at other leading European Universities, most recently as a full professor at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.  Her academic career has included senior research fellowships at the Max-Planck-Institutes in Heidelberg and Bonn, Germany.  She received her law degree in 1997 from Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität (LMU), Munich, Germany and her doctorate in 2001 at the European University Viadrina and is admitted to the bar in Germany.

Professor van Aaken’s research interests include:

  • Public International Law, focusing on International Economic Law, Theories of International Law, Regime Interactions, Shared Responsibilities in International Law.

  • (Behavioral) Law and Economics and Experimental Economics, (International) Legal Theory, Law and Development with a focus on Corruption, Corporate Social Responsibility as well as arbitration and negotiation.

She has presented papers, led workshops and published books and numerous articles in leading academic journals in these subject areas in Europe and the United States.

Among her leadership activities in academic associations, Professor van Aaken has served as vice president of the European Association of Law and Economics and the European Society of International Law.  She is a member of the advisory board of the European Journal of International Law and a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of International Law as well as the Journal of International Economic Law.  She has taught in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and was a visiting scholar at the United States law schools of University of California, Berkeley and Yale and a Visiting Professor at Columbia and NYU law schools.
